Martin Waldron
Martin Waldron is a member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; he is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Current Position
Martin is presently the principal of Waldron Dispute Resolution, specialising in construction and insurance disputes. He has been involved in numerous disputes involving conciliation, arbitration, adjudication and litigation. In addition to this in his previous work he oversaw numerous complex negotiations akin to dispute resolution at times and brings this experience to his dispute resolution practice.
A Unique Perspective
All too often construction professionals have weighted experience on the client or contractor side, Martin’s broad experience as client’s QS, builder’s QS, as client and generally as a businessman ensures that he is uniquely positioned to understand every aspect of construction disputes and bring a balanced perspective thereto.
Arbitrator
As an arbitrator he has developed a reputation for being able to clearly ascertain the core issues of disputes combined with precise contractual entitlements, thereby reaching decisions that are fair and legally sound.
Claim advisor / representative
As a representative he utilises his contract knowledge to extract every possible claim whilst at the same time accurately advising clients as to the strengths and weaknesses in these claims.
Pre contract
As a pre contract advisor he approaches every aspect of the process in a defensive manner. He is of the view that legal and financial certainty at the outset of commercial dealings is the key to delivering projects satisfactorily. To this end his pre contract approach is known to be aggressive to ensure all parties are fully aware of their obligations and rights, thereby ensuring any subsequent disagreements can be managed without damaging reputations or relationships.
Ongoing Professional Development
With the introduction of the Arbitration Act 2010 Martin realised that with the absence of the case stated procedure the selection of an arbitrator with not only the relevant expertise but a very good legal knowledge is now more critical to parties to an arbitration. As a result he is currently studying in King’s Inns with the intention to qualify as a barrister in 2013.
